AboutUs
Broken Boards Ltd is more than just a skateboarding and scootering company, we’re a community-focused organisation dedicated to giving children and young people access to fun, safe, and skill-building activities. Our sessions bring together creativity, movement, and confidence-building, helping young people of all abilities explore new challenges and discover their potential.
We work closely with schools, local authorities, and charities to make our sessions accessible, inclusive, and affordable. From after-school clubs to holiday programs and special community events, our goal is to ensure every child has the chance to experience the joy of skateboarding and scootering — no matter their background or ability.
At Broken Boards, safety and support go hand in hand with fun. Our trained coaches foster an environment where children feel welcome, encouraged, and challenged to grow. Beyond sport, our programs help children develop social skills, resilience, and self-confidence, making a real, lasting impact on the communities we serve.
The Role
This is a freelance self-employed / contractor role.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable freelance coach to join the Broken Boards team and lead our after-school clubs across West Oxfordshire. This is an exciting opportunity to inspire children, bring energy to the end of their school day, and help them grow in confidence through skateboarding, scootering, and fun physical activities.
At Broken Boards, our focus is always on creating safe, supportive, and engaging spaces where every child feels welcome. You don’t need to be a skateboarding expert to apply — what matters most is your ability to connect with young people, manage a group with positivity and patience, and create an atmosphere where children can challenge themselves while having fun. We will provide full training, including skateboarding basics, as well as ongoing support to help you feel confident in running sessions the “Broken Boards way.”
This freelance role is ideal for someone who enjoys working independently but also wants to be part of a passionate, growing team. You will travel to schools, set up and lead sessions, and be the friendly face that children look forward to seeing each week. To succeed, you’ll need to bring energy, organisation, and a strong commitment to safety and safeguarding. A full driving licence is essential, as schools are spread across the county.
In return, we offer competitive freelance rates, flexible term-time working hours, and the chance to develop your skills in youth coaching and alternative sports.
As a Freelance Coach, you will:
Lead after-school club sessions, covering skateboarding and associated activities, including arts/crafts related when indoors.
Follow safety policies rigorously (helmet/pads etc.), ensure children’s awareness of safe behaviours.
Manage group behaviour in accordance with our club rules and safeguarding policy (ensuring children participate safely, deal with non-participation in a way that doesn’t compromise safety or session flow).
Travel to schools / venues as required.
Ensure equipment is maintained, report damage/faults.
Comply with school policies and punctuality.
What We Require
A full driving licence, to travel between schools / venues reliably.
Experience working with children.
Good communication skills, personable, enthusiastic, reliable.
Willingness to follow safety and safeguarding policies strictly.
Flexibility: able to adapt sessions to weather / school hall availability.
Training & Support Provided
We’ll provide training in skateboarding basics (if you aren’t already skilled).
Induction in our safety, safeguarding and club procedures.
Ongoing support & feedback.
We will provide all the equipment necessary for the running of the clubs.
Opportunities for growth (running private and group sessions).
